Birgit Bellstedt -B.Mus (Ed), MMTA

I graduated from the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa) in 1988, gaining a B.Mus (Ed) specialising in piano teaching. After teaching music full-time at a couple of high schools in South Africa and Namibia, my husband and I moved to Germany. Between raising 3 children, I continued teaching piano privately, conducting an adult A Capella choir, and playing piano in a chamber group.

Since moving to Australia, I have extended my teaching privately at home and at various schools, and have played accompaniments for numerous AMEB, scholarship & HSC exams.

For the past 20 years I have entered candidates of all grades for AMEB exams (piano, flute, theory and musicianship) with very pleasing results.

I am also a fully accredited member of the Music Teachers Association of NSW.

My Philosophy:

Although exams are an excellent way to motivate students and ensure they progress at a steady pace, students may want to enjoy playing the piano without the pressure of exams. I firmly believe however, that fun and enjoyment are the result of disciplined and regular practice!! My passion lies in teaching, and my greatest reward is instilling a love of music in my students - excelling at the instrument is a bonus.
